Vrouwenmantel Art Research Group is an art initiative who creates spaces for researching the maternal in art, the maternal that can be assumed in the art practice and alternative models in art that are found on a care-based work ethic in which being a parent and an artist can form a symbiosis.
The spaces that are created are spaces where integrity, safety, inclusivity and caregiving are main priorities. Vrouwenmantel Art Research Group develops workshops, writes and publishes articles and collaborates with other artists and cultural organizations.
Vrouwenmantel Art Research Group is created by mother and artist Kija Benford and care-based feminist and artist Jolijn Durinck during their graduation year at the St Joost School of Art & Design. However, anybody can be part of Vrouwenmantel Art Research Group and we hope that many will do so.

Vrouwenmantel Art Research Group started its existence during An Artist in Residency in Motherhood at Kija her home.

The project ARIM (http://www.artistresidencyinmotherhood.com/) is a “self-directed, open-source artist in residency” established by Lenka Clyton to empower and inspire artists who are also mothers.
